Before New Courts

This is how things were before the New Courts and Clubhouse

This 1988 - 1997 decade saw major changes in the club’s infra-structure.

In the early days, the parking area was often reduced to a quagmire of deep potholes during any wet weather. Teas and refreshments were often taken alfresco or picnic style in the open air or in the Sheepcot Pavilion, shared with the football clubs and somewhat remote from the actual tennis courts. The existing courts were in need of renovation. Like the footballers, we also had to repaint the white lines before important matches.

With all this in mind, club members started to plan for improvements and commenced fund raising towards these ambitions.

The Parish Council replaced the original parking area with a tarmac surface and the tennis clubs first steps were to build extra courts and completely resurface the existing courts. This was only possible once the club had agreed a longer lease with the Parish Council.
