Parade of Champions
This being the Club’s Fortieth Anniversary year, the celebrations continued at the Annual Club Championships, this time with a parade of former champions. Invitations had been sent by the Anniversary Committee to all the past Champions. Seventeen of the past Men’s and Ladies’ singles champions, many no longer members, came along to support the day. They were each individually introduced to the spectators and presented with a certificate marking the occasion. Those present were:
Ladies Champions:
(7 from a possible 11): Hilary Weston (1974/75/80), Barbara Baldwin (1977/78), Sally Murrell (1979), Jax Maclachlan (1991-96 & 2000-03), Sarah Beer (2004/06/07), Annabel Wilson (2005) and the new 2008 champion Nikki Reid.
Mens Champions:
(10 from a possible 14): Adrian Elsey (1975/76/77 & 1981/82) represented by his wife Marylynn, Tony Murrell (1978/79/84/89/90), Brian Baldwin (1980), Gordon Tanner (1986), Alex Wingent (1987/88), Gunther Schultheiss (1991/92/94), Angus Jones (1995/96/97 & 2005/06), Kevin Bovington (1998), David Williams (2001/02) and current champion Richard Pool (2007/08).
A special Champion of Champions award was made to Jax Maclachlan.
