Speed Serving

The Speed Serving competition was very popular throughout the afternoon.

Ollie R supervises the proceedings.

The results were very encouraging, until we realised that the speed radar was set to kilometres per hour rather than miles per hour.

OK! Divide by 8 and then multiply by 5 or is it ......? No! can’t do that in my head.

First a practice serve High

And the ladies have a try High

The fastest male server was Richard R, who clocked in at 161 kph, with a wooden racquet. That is roughly 100 mph. It appears to run in the family, as the fastest junior server was Richard’s son, Ben W  at a speed of 113 kph, but using a “today’s” racquet. You can work out Ben’s mph speed yourselves!
